Birfday Otter Update 10DEC2023

HI! hugs

There are four (4) birfdays listed for this week on the Unofficial Birthday List:

  • toshiya is thirty-three Today! (Sunday, December 10th) Happy Birfday!
  • Veritas will be forty-three tomorrow (Monday, December 11th.)
  • “Wolf” Perry will be forty-three on Wednesday (December 13th.) And
  • Shadowlost will be thirty-six, also on Wednesday.

Many Happy Returns of your day!

And heads-up for Misfile’s birfday next Sunday (December 17th), and for Mick Collins’s and Mika Coon’s birfdays next Monday (December 18th.)

On the Local Furry Events Desk, nothing is coming up this week, probably because of The Holidays. But watch for small celebrations popping up in less than a week.

Furs Upon Malaysia wraps up today (December 10th.) There is one Furry convention coming up this weekend.

  • FurCan, December 16th to 17th, Puebla(?), Mexico

(BTW, there’s one more Furry convention next weekend, then four happening over New Year’s Eve.)

On the Holidays and Occasions Desk, today (Sunday, December 10th), is “Festival for the Souls of Dead Whales“; Inuit and other northern nations set this Day aside to honour whales who died, either for them or otherwise. Today is also Human Rights Day, the anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948. In fact, this is the 75th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. And today is International Animal Rights Day (which is what it says on the label.)

Tomorrow (Monday, December 11th) will be the Anniversary of the Statute of Westminster, the anniversary of the signing of the Statute of Westminster in 1931. In brief, it turned what was left of the British Empire into the British Commonwealth of Nations. It granted independence to all former colonies, Canada included.

On Tuesday (December 12th), Chag HaBanot will begin at sunset, Jewish Girls’ Day (or Festival of the Daughters); it ends on the 13th. Tuesday will also be the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. In 1531, the Virgin Mary appeared to a Mexican peasant, Juan Diego, outside modern Guadalupe and asked that a basilica be built for her there.

Wednesday (December 13th) will be Acadians Remembrance Day, the official commemoration of all members of the Acadian colonies in New Brunswick who died as a result of the Expulsions in 1755. Wednesday will also be Kerabotsmas, the Dudeist observance of the passing of Donny Kerabatsos (and Steve Buscemi’s btfday.) Wednesday will be World Violin Day, a celebration of violins. And the annual Geminid meteor shower will reach its peak on Wednesday night through Thursday morning; it’s expected to end on Saturday.

Thursday (December 14th) will be Monkey Day, a celebration of monkeys (apes, lemurs and tarsiers, too) and all things simian. And Thursday will start the Christmas Bird Count Week; it ends on January 5th.

Friday (December 15th) will be Zamenhof Day, also known as Esperanto Day, the birfday of L. L. Zamenhof (in 1859), who created Esperanto. And Friday will be National Cat Herders Day, dedicated to people who can organize the otherwise unorganizable.

Saturday (December 16th) will be Beethoven’s Birfday; he would have been two hundred and fifty-three. And Saturday will start the Posada Navidena, a daily party circuit among Hispanic Christians to help children celebrate the story of Mary and Joseph, looking for a place to stay in Bethlehem; it ends on Christmas Eve.

And a heads-up for next Sunday (December 17th.) It will be International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers.

If you want to be on the Unofficial Birthday List, or if you’d prefer to be removed or have your entry changed, email me at dotter8@gmail.com, and I’ll fix it for you promptly. I WILL NOT ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR REQUESTS SENT IN ANY OTHER WAY! (Requests should include the name you are or want to be entered under so that I know which “Jim Smith” to change to “Honking Camel.”) Please note that the UBL is NOT linked to the TorFur list; if you change or delete your TorFur entry, you must notify me separately. Also, it’s my policy never to add people to the UBL unless they ask to be added, changed or removed themselves. Please don’t ask for somebody else. However, you can have a Character of Significance on the list, provided you own it. (Ask me.)

Nips & cuddles,
— Dee

About D'Otter

"I'm not an otter, but I play one on the Internet!" These are the thoughts and tales of a Furry fan. Mostly, I repost my Birthday Otter Update here. I've been posting these silly things to the Toronto Furry mailing list for... oh, must be a couple of decades now! I recently decided to take it to a wider audience here on WordPress, (although I link these copies to Furry sites. I don't expect to find many fans here, even less fans from around Toronto Canada.) If you like stories, I keep mine in my "Stories" category.
