Birfday Otter Update 11JUN2023

This week’s update is abridged because Real Life handed me trouble. Birfday Otter was sore and missing sleep yesterday (Saturday), so I started pretty late. OTOH, this week’s update is shorter.

There’s just one (1) birfday listed for this week on the Unofficial Birthday List:

• Zart will be forty on Saturday (June 17th.)

On the Local Furry Events Desk, Sparx will host fursuit bowling at Leisure Lanes, 728 Champlain Ave, Oshawa, (905-579-4411.) Meet on Friday (June 17th), starting at 8:00 PM.

Usually, this means there will be a virtual furmeet the next day (Saturday, June 18th) on VRChat, starting at 8:00 PM.

There will be three Furry conventions this weekend.

• StratosFur, June 16th to 18th, Houston, TX
• Argentina FurFiesta, June 16th to 18th, Buenos Aires, Argentina
• CastleCon, June 16th to 18th, Schütteberg, Germany

On the Holidays and Occasions Desk today (Sunday, June 11th), nothing, in particular, will happen.

Tomorrow (Monday, June 12th) will be International Falafel Day.

Tuesday, (June 13th) will be the 125th anniversary of the creation of the Yukon Territory, Men’s Mental Health Awareness Day and World Pet Memorial Day. Tuesday will also be the Feast of St. Anthony of Padua. Anthony is the patron saint of the poor and illiterate, lost things and small favours. He preached to the fish when the heretics wouldn’t listen. Aingvery hungry mule venerated the Blessed Sacrament rather than eat its own food, proving St. Anthony’s teaching.

Wednesday, (June 14th) will be World Blood Donor Day.

Thursday, (June 15th) will be Global Wind Day, Clean Air Day and Veterinary Appreciation Day. Thursday will also be the Feasts of St. Bernard of Montjoux and St. Vitus (aka St. Guy.) Bernard established hotels in the Italian Alps for lost travellers, but we know him best for breeding St Barnard dogs. (His feast might also be celebrated on May 28th.) Vitus is a martyr. He cast a demon out of the son of Emperor Diocletian. Old Jovius had him thrown to the lions anyway because he was Christian. But the lions wouldn’t eat him, so Diocletian had him boiled in lead with a couple of roosters to keep him from escaping by witchcraft. He helps domestic animals (as well as storms and a couple other things.) Animals seem to know when he’s giving miraculous help.

Friday, (June 16th) will be the Birfday of Leonard P. Howell, the founder of Rastafarianism. It will also be the Martyrdom of Guru Arjan Dev Sahib, the fifth Sikh guru. Friday will also be World Sea Turtle Day and Bloom’s Day.

Saturday, (June 17th) will be the Official Celebration of the King’s Birthday. (He was actually born in November, but like his mother before him, we celebrate on this day when the weather is nicer.) Saturday will also be Rohini Vrat, World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought and World Juggling Day. (Juggling is an otter thing.) ;-)

And heads-up for next Sunday, (June 18th.) It will be Father’s Day, Autistic Pride Day and International Sushi Day. And next Monday (June 19th) will be World Sickle Cell Day, Take Your Cat to Work Day and the start of Take Your Pet to Work Week.
