Birfday Otter Update 28APR2024

HI! hugs Sorry, folks, this is the big monthly update.

There are two (2) birfdays listed for this week on the Unofficial Birthday List:

  • Silvertree will be fifty-five on Thursday (May 2nd.) And
  • Nikkowolf will be thirty-six, also on Thursday.

Many Happy Returns of your day!

And heads-up for JTBear’s and Milo’s (Strife’s) birfdays next Monday (May 6th.)

On the Local Furry Events Desk, Sparx will host an Oshawa Furmeet this Friday (May 3rd) at Chasers Bar & Grill, 1300 King St E, Oshawa. The meeting will start at 8:00 PM.

There is usually an Oshawa Virtual Furmeet on the Saturday after an in-person meet, (May 4th.) They usually start at 8:00 PM.

Ticket sales for Fierce Pride will reopen tomorrow (Monday April 29th) Look for them on Buddies In Bad Times Theatre‘s website. https://buddiesinbadtimes.com/tickets/

Wild Nights will continue until Tuesday. Three Furry conventions are coming this weekend.

On the Holidays and Occasions Desk, today (Sunday, April 28th) is Palm Sunday for Orthodox Christians, the Sunday before Pascha. Today is also National Day of Mourning, also known as Workers Memorial Day, commemorating workers who died on the job. And it’s no coincidence that today is World Day for Safety and Health At Work.

Tomorrow (Monday, April 29th) will be International Dance Day, an occasion founded by the dance committee of UNESCO to honour dancing. (I’m sure we all appreciate the dances at cons.)

On Tuesday (April 30th), the Twelfth Day of Riḍván will begin at sunset, the Baha’i commemoration of the Baháʼu’lláh and His followers leaving Baghdad for Constantinople. Tuesday will also be St. James the Great Day, the feast of the apostle of Christ for Orthodox Christians. Tuesday will be Maidyozarem Gahambar, a Zoroastrian Spring festival; it ends May 4th. And don’t forget that Tuesday is the deadline for submitting your income tax forms. They must be postmarked by April 30th. After that, a penalty could apply. (If you expect a refund, however, Revenue Canada will probably give it a pass.)

Wednesday (May 1st) will be busy.

  • On Wednesday, the Twelfth Day of Riḍván. Baha’i commemorate the Bahá’u’lláh leaving the Garden of Riḍván in Baghdad and moving to Constantinople (now Istanbul.)
  • Wednesday will be Beltane, the Pagan fertility festival. Spring is in full bloom. The sun and the ground are warm again. Life has returned to the world. Pagans celebrate with maypoles, bonfires, and general carrying-on.
  • Wednesday will be May Day, also called International Workers Day. Workers take the day off in many parts of the world to remind the boss that without their labour not a single wheel would turn.
  • Wednesday will be National Purebred Dog Day, a celebration of dogs whose breed is known and registered. (Thanks to Kliah Mott for pointing out this occasion.)
  • Wednesday will be the start of National Youth Week in Canada. Honour the skills, enthusiasm and accomplishments of young people in our community. It ends on the 7th.

Thursday (May 2nd) will be World Tuna Day, a reminder that tuna are facing extinction because of overfishing. And Thursday will be World Password Day. How long has it been since you changed that password? Is it time for a new one?

Friday (May 3rd) will be Good Friday for Orthodox Christians. Coincidentally, Friday will also be Roodmas, the Orthodox Christian celebration of Saint Helena finding the True Cross (on which Jesus died) in 355 CE. Friday will be Discoflux, but that’s a Discordian thing, and we’re probably not supposed to know about it. Friday will be Sun Day, a celebration of solar power generation. And Friday will be No Pants Day; you can if you want to.

Saturday (May 4th) will be busy.

And heads-up for next Sunday (May 5th). Yom HaShoah will begin at sunset. Next Sunday will also be Pascha, Red Dress Day, Dutch Heritage Day, National Cartoonists Day, World Laughter Day, and Revenge of the Fifth, as well as the start of Emergency Preparedness Week, National Pet Week and Be Kind To Animals Week. This is the last update of the month, so the complete Unofficial Birthday List is REDACTED. And if you want to be on the Unofficial Birthday List, or if you’d prefer to be removed or have your entry changed, email me at dotter8@gmail.com, and I’ll fix it for you promptly. I WILL NOT ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR REQUESTS SENT IN ANY OTHER WAY! (Requests should include the name you are or want to be entered under so that I know which “Jim Smith” to change to “Honking Camel. “) Please note that the UBL is NOT linked to the TorFur list; if you change or delete your TorFur entry, you must notify me separately. Also, it’s my policy never to add people to the UBL unless they ask to be added, changed or removed themselves. Please don’t ask for somebody else. However, you can have a Character of Significance on the list, provided you own it. (Ask me.)

Nips & cuddles,

About D'Otter

"I'm not an otter, but I play one on the Internet!" These are the thoughts and tales of a Furry fan. Mostly, I repost my Birthday Otter Update here. I've been posting these silly things to the Toronto Furry mailing list for... oh, must be a couple of decades now! I recently decided to take it to a wider audience here on WordPress, (although I link these copies to Furry sites. I don't expect to find many fans here, even less fans from around Toronto Canada.) If you like stories, I keep mine in my "Stories" category.
